This is my second attempt at solving old Wordle puzzles ten at one go, under the WittyCulus Wordle Challenge mode I devised out of the blue.
With the answer from one game, e.g. Wordle 30, acting as the starting word for the next (Wordle 31), it takes discipline and careful gameplay to ensure success. I knew that.
It was never going to be an easy walk in the park. That’s the beauty of doing the challenge, to be frank.
Yet I let myself get carried away with a casual playing mentality this time!
The results are nothing to write home about, as you will see.

Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 31 Puzzle
Guess #1
Wordle 30 ended with PRIDE. Will it serve well?
Guess #2
No! ABOUT as good as any random start word 🙂
Guess #3
I’m gonna try FLOCK, seeing that lone O…
Guess #4
Nice, 3 hits! Maybe FLOSS would do it?
Ha, got real lucky there!
While not many possibilities remain, there are still simple(r) words like FLOWS, FLOWN and FLOGS which will fit! Won’t consider this a good game, actually!
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 32 Puzzle
Guess #1
Not expecting FLOSS to start off well.
Guess #2
Let’s test A, E, T with LATHE.
Guess #3
Now getting somewhere with 3 letters revealed. BELCH looks a natural choice for a guess 🙂
Guess #4
With H in front, both E and L locked, HELIX is it!
Did I jump the gun there? Not thinking too deep, to be honest 🙂
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 33 Puzzle
Guess #1
HELIX is gonna give us a spin, I bet!
Guess #2
Feeling like getting O, U, T out (pun?) of the way… with MOUNT.
Guess #3
Now to test R, S; D might as well; with SWORD.
Guess #4
Not much going on! Trying CROAK just for fun 🙂
How’s that for another lucky guess to win the game? Lol!
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 34 Puzzle
Guess #1
How much value does a CROAK bestow?
Guess #2
Just the A; but ADIEU can help fish more vowels.
Guess #3
Nope! Nvm, we will test A‘s position with MALLS.
Guess #4
Rearranging A, S; checking for T with SHAFT…
Guess #5
We’ve got an obvious answer here: STAFF 🙂
While the solution was found pretty convincingly from move #4, guesses 2 and 3 beg explanations for poor play to be honest!
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 35 Puzzle
Guess #1
Not hopeful with a double-letter word like STAFF.
Guess #2
I’ll just DREAM on for a bit; but test selectively 🙂
Guess #3
Liking it better now with 3 letters known… and feeling ABLER than before lol.
Guess #4
Hmm, time to quit this CAPER of fun guessing?
Guess #5
For sure, cause PAPER has been revealed as the puzzle’s answer!
I reckon this game a better showing, though at guess #3 I could have gone with A in the second slot as a more natural choice.
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 36 Puzzle
Guess #1
What will PAPER bring us?
Guess #2
Not much, just an E. I’m thinking the answer ends in ED, so SHIED should help.
Guess #3
Confirmed that ED ending, but not much more. BLEED comes to mind, so why not?
Guess #4
Still no improvement… point NOTED!
Guess #5
Gonna try UNWED to see where that N goes.
Guess #6
We’re close! It must be UNFED then 🙂
I’ll admit that was some uncharacteristic play, squandering guesses at moves #3 and #4! Fortunate thing it ended well, but that’s certainly not the way to do Wordle!!!
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 37 Puzzle
Guess #1
Not really counting on UNFED, if you get my drift.
Guess #2
Let RATIO tell us more, if it will…
Guess #3
Zilch! But the Wordle player HELPS himself out 🙂
Guess #4
Somehow, the HEL sequence seems to be saying something? Ok, I’m seeing (in retrospect, wrongly) WHELK as the possibility.
Guess #5
Of course it has to be WHELP, dummy!
Not sure what I was thinking… or (not) seeing… to waste a move just like that 🙁
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 38 Puzzle
Guess #1
The odds of WHELP kicking off a good start are…
Guess #2
Not too bad 🙂 My mind feels like a bit of SWIRL.
Guess #3
That R brings forth the idea of the _RAWL pattern, so let’s begin with BRAWL.
Guess #4
No? C then, with CRAWL…
Guess #5
Still no? Let’s try DRAWL next.
Guess #6
Alright, we should be done with TRAWL now!
Obviously the wild guessing is supposed to be replaced by intelligent testing. For example, trying a word like CADET on the fifth try would have been befitting.
But what has just happpened?
Guess I got lazy and danced with chance! I know better, so this gameplay has been subpar 🙁
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 39 Puzzle
Guess #1
Gonna be another difficult start, now with TRAWL?
Guess #2
STONE seems a balanced word to use here.
Guess #3
Got a feeling U is in, so let’s check out MOUTH…
Guess #4
OUGHT looks clever here, so I’m going with it 🙂
Guess #5
Hmm… OU must be followed by T, correct? With that fixed, I’ll just try OUTBY — I haven’t got a clue if this is valid and what it means! — since nothing else comes to my head.
Guess #6
I feel a bit lucky this game ended with the answer found, at the very last move. It didn’t seem to be going places halfway through!
It has to be OUTDO! (But why didn’t I see that earlier???)
Step-by-Step Replay of Wordle 40 Puzzle
Guess #1
With 2 puzzles back-to-back finishing at the last minute, I better not OUTDO myself!
Guess #2
Will try RADON for kicks, instead of plain RADIO 😉
Guess #3
ABODE is screaming at me, so I’ll just let it in…
Guess #4
Of course it’s ADOBE, you sleepy head!
Once again, I’m very off from being alert — how could I not have seen that D doesn’t sit in the 4th slot (from the very first clue)?
This could have been a sweet and neat 3-mover!!!
What a Mixed Bag!
I didn’t fare well in this second round of playing a 10-game-set of past Wordles.
Had been approaching the puzzles rather casually instead of taking a more considered approach. The results are truly indicative of poor gameplay with haphazard moves and opportunities overlooked.
I will have to buck up and do the next ten word games with more seriousness. Otherwise, the win streak (starting from past Wordle 3; game #2 was disastrous!) will surely break with such laissez faire puzzle solving attitude.
But there is hope yet. So, let’s push on, steadily 🙂
