There’s actually a V inside the mystery word! Now to test all other vowels with LOUIS.

Wow, only vowel A is in there! Perhaps two of them? Words starting with VA and having the L somewhere, like VALID and VAULT, don’t fit. VULVA is out too. With the 3 letters revealed, can’t see the A being in front. Ah, it could be NAVAL.

It might seem like I took a chance there. But the analysis led to the answer being deduced correctly. The V definitely helped to limit word choices and likely sequences of letters.
Thus a calculated risk was taken with guess #3, so to speak.
